Abstract:

TUR is cited as the treatment of choice for relief of bladder outflow tract obstruction in the male, but bladder neck incision (BNI) is an acceptable alternative when the gland is smalI.1,2,3 Sixty cases of BNIfTUR have been reviewed (BNI=35, TUR=25) from March, 1986 to April, 1988. BNI was done when the glands were less than 30 gr , and when there was no clinical suspicion of malignancy the operative technique of our single incision is given.4 In BNI the catheter stay was shorter, and there was less infection, a significantly reduced need for blood transfusion, and satisfactory outcome in terms of control and need forfurther surgery. BNI is a technically simpler procedure than TUR and is easy to teach and learn. Our results show it is safe and effective for patients in acute retention as well as those treated electively and is the operation of choice for a small benign prostate. In larger glands BNI may not be desirable. In matched cases this method provided better results and fewer complications than the standard transurethral resection.

Treatment of primary bladder neck obstruction in women with transurethral resection of the bladder neck.

PURPOSE We describe the presentation, clinical characteristics, treatment and followup of a series of women with primary bladder neck obstruction (PBNO). MATERIALS AND METHODS A patient data base was searched for women who underwent transurethral resection for bladder outlet obstruction diagnosed by videourodynamic study (VUDS) according to the Blaivas-Groutz nomogram for female bladder outle...

Transurethral incision/resection of the prostate (TUIP/TURP) in operative treatment of repeated bladder outlet obstruction early after kidney transplantation.

The aim of the study was to assess the incidence and etiology of repeated bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) after kidney transplantation and to analyze the results of transurethral incision of the prostate/transurethral resection of the prostate (TUIP/TURP) in the early period after kidney transplantation. The study included 24 male patients having undergone renal transplantation and early trans...

Transurethral incision of the prostate and bladder neck.

Transurethral incision of the prostate (TUIP) is compared to transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) by reviewing nonrandomized, matched, and randomized studies. These studies indicate that incision of the prostate and bladder neck relieves outflow urinary obstruction, as does TURP. The incision is relatively easier to learn and perform, and requires shorter operative time compared to TU...

Selective Transurethral Resection of the Prostate Combined with Transurethral Incision of the Bladder Neck for Bladder Outlet Obstruction in Patients with Small Volume Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH): A Prospective Randomized Study

PURPOSE Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) has a high failure rate in patients with small volume benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) with bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). We describe and report the results of an alternative surgical method, selective transurethral resection of the prostate (STURP) in combination with transurethral incision of the bladder neck (TUIBN). METHODS Patie...

Transurethral Incision of the Bladder Neck in a Woman with Primary Bladder Neck Obstruction after Kidney Transplantation

Voiding dysfunction is frequently seen in the early posttransplant period. Among other causes, this condition can arise due to bladder outlet obstruction. Primary bladder neck obstruction (PBNO) is a possible but very rare cause of bladder outlet obstruction. We present the case of a 52-year-old woman who, after kidney transplantation, presented with PBNO. The diagnosis was established based on...
